Big Brother Or Badass?

Afew weeks ago, my agency became part of a growing number of police departments equipping their fleet with in-car cameras. In our case, we also have on-bike cameras. As you may expect, there exists no small amount of paranoia (at worst) and trepidation (at best) amongst the troops regarding being “watched” by the powers that be.

Understandable, I suppose, but let me ask you this: when aren’t we being watched? From smart phones to YouTube, the amount of time it takes to post a recorded video is negligible in the grand scheme of things. It seems to me anything a department can do to have its own (and likely more accurate) version of events as they unfold can be nothing but a positive.
