Workstar 320 Pocket Floodlight

Penlights can be incredibly useful, but they’re typically limited in power and range and have a very narrow beam. MAXXEON’s WorkStar 320 fixes that using a specially engineered reflector, a Cree XP-E LED and three AAA alkaline batteries to pump out an honest 140 lumens in a broad floodlight beam, with no rings, shadows or hot spots. Its distance-to-diameter ratio is about 1:1, so at 1′ distance the beam is about 1′ in diameter, and at 6′ you can cover a tall suspect from cap to shoes.

The tube is 6″ of T6 aluminum, anodized and with knurling front and rear to enhance grip. A pocket clip is adjustable for height. All threaded joints have rubber O-ring seals for water resistance, and the sealed rubber cap switch provides momentary and on/off control. Weight with batteries is 3 ounces, and runtime is 2 hours at full power plus 4 more hours of useable light, with typical intermittent use.
