by Viridian Green Laser

If you’ve had the opportunity to try VGL’s rail-mounted Gen 1 X5L daylight-visible green laser and taclight, maybe you wondered could they possibly make it even smaller and more powerful? Well, they did.

The X5L Gen 2 teams a 154-lumen taclight, which automatically boosts to 180 lumens on strobe mode, with a 5mW green laser in a unit only 1.37×1.45×2.84″ and weighing just 3.3 ounces. The Gen 1’s light and laser were stacked; on Gen 2 they’re side-by-side. Gen 2 uses a longer-lasting CR123A, which loads from the front, so you don’t have to dismount the X5L to change batteries. Controls on Gen 1 used four buttons, while six “standard” modes plus deep programming is done with two buttons on the Gen 2.

With a continuous or strobe light and steady or pulsing laser, the X5L Gen 2 is one tough, terrific tool. Shop around! Priced from $309 to $399.
