G2G-Lightfield

Lightfield Ammunition Corp.

Lightifield has been making a wide range of less-lethal load options for many years, with the corrections market being their most avid users. Loads like rubber buckshot, rubber slugs, a proprietary rubber “star” load and an innovative adaptor allowing the use of 12-gauge less-lethal rounds in 37/40mm platforms, have proven themselves in prison riots, control in “pods” in prisons and other situations. We were asked to take a look at some of their products for home-defense use, which might be workable options for officers’ personal home-defense shotguns. Lightfield’s double ball, rubber buck and rubber slug are being marketed as “A safer option for home defense.” While you may or may not agree with the use of less lethal in a home-defense situation, we think it deserves a hard look. A YouTube video posted by the company shows very good close-in performance, and the StarLite load (a rubber ball with “fingers” covering it) allows direct impact on a subject from one to 10 yards. It’s a 75-grain projectile at about 500 fps, and photos show significant bruising on a real-world suspect. Showing 1,150 fps for four rubber buckshot from a 4″ barrel, it might be just the ticket for all those Taurus Judge and S&W Governor revolvers out there used for home defense. I confess, the idea of keeping a “first round” of less lethal might be a good idea for many, especially those with little or no training. While it might give a home owner a chance against a bad guy, it would also help prevent the more serious consequences of a bad decision. At least the option is there now, with Lightfield’s Home Defense loads. www.americancop.com/lightfield-corporation
